Aboard the Carnival Miracle, East Pacific Ocean

Today we continued our rockin’ roller coaster ride on the Carnival Miracle, and I suppose it is a Miracle that we are still afloat! Just kidding - it’s not that serious! But the captain did announce that the wave swells were 12 to 15 feet, and I could feel each and every one of them! As the ship climbed up the crest of a wave, it felt like I had suddenly put on an additional 200 pounds of weight, momentarily causing me to vow to cut back on my food consumption on this cruise! But as we slid down the other side of the wave, I immediately banished that obscene idea as I felt as light as a feather, almost weightless. What a ride!

Today was Presidents’ Day onbaord the Carnival Miracle. To honor this special occasion, the ship held a traditional, old fashioned Presidents’ Day Trivia Contest. Sample Question: What are George Washington’s wooden dentures made of?

A. Wood

B. Human teeth

C. Animal teeth

D. Metal, ceramic

E. All of the above

F. B, C, & D

I chose to find a better way to celebrate the occasion, such as attending a lecture about the history of Hawaii, birthplace of President Barack Obama.

By the way, the answer is F. President Washington never wore wooden dentures, anymore than he cut down that cherry tree. Apparently he lied about that.

We enjoyed some quiet time reading in the Serenity area on Deck 9, in Gatsby’s Garden on Deck 3, and in the Main Lobby on Deck 3, where we could also watch a rumba lesson being conducted. When I noticed Rumba Lessons on today’s calendar list of events, I could have kicked myself for not packing my robotic vacuum cleaner. After all, how was I to know that lessons on using your vacuum cleaner more effectively would be offered right here on the cruise ship? Well, when we sat down to watch the Rumba Lessons, I immediately realized that my understanding of Rumba Lessons was not entirely accurate. Nevertheless, the sight of dozens of robotic vacuum cleaners dressed as humans buzzing around the dance floor to Latin music is something I will not soon forget!

Tonight was Cruise Elegant attire for dinner so we enjoyed getting all gussied up in our Sunday best! I got to wear my brand new suit! Prime rib and lobster tail! Doesn’t get much better than that!

After dinner, professional photos of the cutest couples on the ship, featuring yours truly! We even had our photo taken with the captain. And with such rough seas, it begs the question, if he’s having photos taken with all the guests, who’s piloting the ship?

We watched a very energetic show featuring soul music in the theater. Interestingly, the cruise director introduced the show as a tribute to Black History Month (February), but of the 7 performers, only 2 were African American.

After the show, Anne and I settled in the Red Frog Pub where we listened to a 5-piece band from Indonesia play oldies but goodies from America.

The days just keep getting better!
